Public environments, schools and nurseries

Areas where many people visit or stay at the same time, place extra demands on hygiene and ventilation. Air circulation that is completely sufficient in a home can be lacking in a classroom with perhaps thirty students – and the younger the children, the more time is spent on the floor where moisture-related problems first make themselves known.

Many of these buildings were constructed in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It was a time when conditions were different in many ways. Allergies were far rarer than they are today and the preschools were daycare centres, with low teaching intentions. Rather, these buildings were to be regarded as storage places, where low costs came before optimal function. Although there were good solutions already at the time, these were often bargained away, which over time often manifests itself in the form of problems with mould and bad odours.

This type of premises is often quite bare, with hard surfaces to be easy to clean and maintain. In combination with large floor areas, the result is a loud and stressful noise level, especially as often in these areas there is extra ceiling height. Today, we value a comfortable environment more highly, not only for our well-being but also for long-term health reasons.

It’s important with safe floors and a fresh, safe indoor environment for both children and adults.

So there are many reasons to choose our ventilated raised access and/or acoustic floors for renovation, even if it’s due to wear and tear rather than existing moisture damage. SubFloor’s products for ordinary homes also work well in these environments, regardless of the types of flooring required. It’s just a matter of adjusting the c/c spacing between joists to the actual load requirement – which is, of course, usually higher in public premises. We can also adapt the design to the intended surface layer, as different flooring materials have different flexibilities, with different effects on impact sound damping.

With construction heights from just 15 mm, a ventilated and/or sound-absorbing SubFloor floor can be laid virtually anywhere, without the finished floor surface ending up higher than before. The floor ventilation complements other ventilation, and in addition, a flexible installation space is formed in the air gap between the foundation and the floor. The result is dry, safe floors and a fresh, safe indoor environment for both children and adults.
